The Department of Ecology, Evolution, and Environmental Biology (E3B) at Columbia University seeks to fill the position of Lecturer to teach undergraduate and graduate level courses in environmental and public ethics effective July 1, 2013. The Lecturer will teach and advise in four programs:
- The Undergraduate Major and Special Concentration in Sustainable Development;
- Executive Master of Public Policy and Administration;
- Master of Public Administration in Environmental Science and Policy; and
- Master of Science in Sustainability Management.
The Department seeks an individual with a vibrant portfolio of academic study, experience and publications in two or more of the following disciplines: Environmental Ethics, Applied Ethics, Public Sector Ethics, Philosophy, Political Science, or a related field. The candidate should have extensive leadership experience applying these disciplines across a wide spectrum of industries/sectors; successful teaching experience in a major research university; public sector experience; relevant research and publication; and deep and demonstrated understanding of the advances that are driving best practice and research in this field.
Teaching and advising in the associated programs and related programming areas is expected, in addition to the following: participation in curriculum and program development and evaluation; participation in the development and execution of strategies to students as they transition from prospect to alum; academic and career advising to support the academic needs and professional aspirations of students. The candidate must be capable of leading the Department and the associated programs’ academic missions, and demonstrate the potential for vision and direction that will be required for all aspects of the position.

Qualifications:
All applicants MUST meet these minimum qualifications to be considered for the position. Candidates for the Lecturer position must have demonstrated and show promise of continuing to make significant contributions to their areas of professional practice and accompanying pedagogy. Teaching experience required, preferably at the graduate level. PhD in Political Science, Philosophy or equivalent academic experience required for all candidates.
