Doctoral student position in Sustainable Agro-ecosystems Group, Department of Environmental Systems Sciences, ETH-Zurich, Switzerland.
The Sustainable Agroecosystems Group at ETH Zurich (in collaboration with the Ecological Farming Systems Group of Agroscope) is seeking a doctoral student for a project “Nitrogen Cycling and Soil Microbial Communities in Integrated Organic Farming Systems”. With the goal of delivering the highest possible supply of nitrogen to plants while preventing nitrogen losses to the environment, this research will assess microbial mediated N transformations within soil microhabitats across a variety of farm management practices (i.e., tillage practices and cover crop species within organic and conventional systems).
Possible candidates should demonstrate strong work ethics and attention to detail, particularly in the laboratory. The student will be trained to isolate soil microenvironments, detect microbial communities, and measure N transformation rates.
Starting date: September 1st, 2014. For more information about the project, please check:
Qualified candidates should hold a M.Sc. degree in agronomy, soil science, environmental sciences, environmental microbiology, or a related field. Experience with molecular and analytical methods is preferred.
To apply, please send an email (subject: Application NORGS) to firstname.lastname@example.org. Please include:
-A letter of intent
-CV with relevant experience in the field
Applications will be accepted until Friday, July 11th, 2014.
