Chesapeake Biological Laboratory
Applications received by March 15, 2014 will receive our full consideration.
The University of Maryland Center for Environmental Science Chesapeake Biological Laboratory (CBL) seeks applicants for multiple faculty positions at the assistant professor level in Applied Environmental Statistics. CBL is committed to developing a new applied environmental statistics group that will offer graduate courses, taught to distributed sites, to train students in environmental statistics and serve on graduate advisory committees. Applicants should have enthusiasm and preferably experience in teaching and statistical consulting. Successful applicants will have the opportunity to collaborate on scientific research, integration and synthesis with other faculty within the Center. The positions complement and enhance existing strengths in ecology, fisheries science, geochemistry, and ecotoxicology at CBL and in marine and environmental sciences more broadly within UMCES (http://www.umces.edu), as well as other institutions of the University System of Maryland.
We particularly seek applicants with expertise in linear and nonlinear mixed models, high dimensional data analysis, time series analysis, and Bayesian statistics. Experience designing studies and analyzing environmental data sets are important attributes. Ability to use a variety of statistical software packages, including R, and experience using distance learning approaches are also desired.
Applicants must have an earned doctoral degree in statistics or related field by the time of the appointment. Successful candidates will be appointed as non-tenure-track faculty within UMCES. Appointees will be guaranteed 49% of their annual salary from teaching and advising and may raise the remainder through extramural funding.
To apply, please send 1) a statement of teaching and advising interests including descriptions of courses taught and specific reference to how your strengths would fit into UMCES, 2) a curriculum vitae, and 3) contact information for 3 potential references to Ms. Kelly Arthur (arthur@umces.edu) with Statistician Position in the subject line. For more details about the position or UMCES in general, please contact Dr. Mike Wilberg (wilberg@umces.edu), chair of the search committee.

Salary and benefits are competitive and dependent on qualifications. Ph.D. is required at time of appointment. UMCES is an affirmative action/equal opportunity employer. We promote excellence through diversity and encourage women and minorities to apply.
