HIGH-LEVEL CAREER OPPORTUNITY

Associate Director for Exposure Science
Announcement #: RTP-ORD-42-2014-0003

EPA’s Office of Research and Development (ORD), National Exposure Research Laboratory (NERL), is seeking a highly recognized senior scientific candidate to serve as the NERL scientific leader in the development and oversight of an innovative, integrated exposure research program that employs a variety of exposure science approaches, including the use of empirical, computational, and modeling tools. The position will be located in Research Triangle Park, North Carolina.

NERL is a scientific organization responsible for developing and applying innovations in exposure science. NERL provides scientific leadership, understanding, and tools necessary to quantify exposure for humans and ecosystems. This involves describing the characteristics of the environment, the movement of stressors and human/ecological receptors in the environment, and the exposure that results from contact between stressors and human/ecological receptors. NERL has six research divisions; two are located in Research Triangle Park, North Carolina; two in Cincinnati, Ohio; and one each in Las Vegas, Nevada and Athens, Georgia.

More information on ORD’s NERL can be found at: www.epa.gov/nerl

The incumbent will provide leadership and expertise to plan, develop, organize, and implement a national exposure research program. This multi-media (air, water, land) program develops, evaluates and applies measurement methods and models to describe the environment and to develop data on exposure of human/ecological receptors to environmental stressors in order to reduce uncertainty in risk assessment and facilitate risk management.

Salary and Benefits: This is a Title 42 authority appointment. The position is a full-time, renewable, 5-year term appointment. Determination of salary is dependent upon qualifications, experience, and other factors (e.g., current salary, market salary rates). The selected applicant will be eligible for full benefits including relocation expenses, health and life insurance, retirement, and vacation and sick leave.

Applicants must be U.S. citizens or permanent residents. EPA is an Equal Opportunity Employer, and selection for this position will be based solely on merit without regard to race, color, religion, age, gender, national origin, political affiliation, disability, sexual orientation, marital or family status or any other non-merit factors.
