ASSISTANT PROFESSOR OF WILDLIFE POPULATION ECOLOGY

ASSISTANT PROFESSOR OF WILDLIFE POPULATION ECOLOGY
University of Maine
Orono, Maine

The University of Maine’s Department of Wildlife Ecology invites applications for full-time, academic-year tenure-track position (50% research / 50% teaching) in wildlife population ecology. The successful candidate will develop an internationally-recognized research program with a primary focus on terrestrial vertebrate population dynamics and a proven track record of combining quantitative analysis and modeling with field-based research. Research should be relevant to Maine and the northeastern U.S., and may include (not limited to) wildlife population dynamics, estimating population density and vital rates, modeling populations, and integrating wildlife spatial use into population models to assess effects of human perturbations (e.g., forestry, landscape fragmentation, harvesting, alternative energy and land development). We are especially interested in applicants who will complement the department’s current strengths in wildlife research and foster integrative approaches to applied problems. Teaching responsibilities will include undergraduate courses in wildlife population dynamics and conservation, involvement in existing field ecology courses, and a graduate course in advanced population dynamics and modeling. The faculty member is expected to advise undergraduates, train graduate students, and have a productive and extramurally supported research program. A Ph.D. is required by date of hire in a relevant area of wildlife ecology or biological sciences, along with a background in terrestrial vertebrate ecology. Further position information and important application instructions are available at:http://jobs.umaine.edu/blog/2013/02/20/assistant-professor-of-wildlife-ecology/. Review of applications will begin March 31, 2013 and will continue until the position is filled. Incomplete applications cannot be considered. Appropriate background checks will be required.
