Diversity Luncheon
Lake Brokopondo in Suriname was created in 1964 with the completion of the Afobaka Dam to provide electricity for an aluminum smelting plant and the city of Paramaribo. The tree trunks remain a reminder of the deluged forest--as well as the many maroon villages that were submerged.
