Teaching ecology using case studies will help students understand connections between concepts and see the big picture

I have implemented short case studies in our ecology courses over the last year, but I am interested in implementing longer and more comprehensive cases in the future. One of the big problems with ecology education is that many instructors teach ecology concepts as separated items without helping students make the connections between them. Students therefore often have difficulties applying concepts and seeing the big picture. I am convinced that teaching ecology using case studies will help students make those connections and therefore understand how concepts can be applied to solve current complex ecological issues.

I would be interested in discussing the use of case studies with instructors who have used them or similar activities in their teaching.

teaching ecology

I teach scientific writing to science and engineering graduate students from various fields (e.g., chemistry, physics, mechanical engineering, biology, ecology, etc) in Japan. I sometimes need to draw gokkasten examples from a journal in which they can related to. Does any one know a good journal to use as an example for this purpose?

Journal

I need to make a journal in the subject science and I do not know what topic I should write about. There should also be some drawing and process making darn I have a week to do it.
