ESA is pleased to announce two exciting opportunities for local high school teachers to take place at its 94th Annual Meeting in Albuquerque, NM
A. Second Annual Educator Day: "Linking Ecological Research and Education"
Monday August 3, 2009
The day is open at no cost to local formal and informal high school educators. The ESA Educator Day focuses on how high school educators can integrate ecological literacy and research into their teaching practice.
PROGRAM
8:00 am—10:00 am
- Welcome and introductions, ESA Annual Meeting Opening Plenary
10:00 am—11:30 am
- Learn about outstanding ecology education programs that can be implemented in your school and exchange ideas on teaching resources.
11:30 am—1:15 pm
- Special Educator Workshop over Brown Bag Lunch
Project Learning Tree : Exploring Environmental Issues: Places We Live
Join National PLT staff who will introduce Secondary Module which integrates science, social studies, and environmental studies to investigate local community issues. You will also be eligible to apply for future Greenworks grants.

B. Bio-Blitz: Explore Nature at the Albuquerque Bosque Ecosystem
Pre-Meeting Field Trip for High School Educators and Students
Sunday August 2, 2009 (Open to 6 teachers and 12 students)
This field trip is made possible with a grant from GreenWorks! the community action component of Project Learning Tree
Local High School teachers serving highly diverse students are invited to participate, along with two of their students, in an exciting series of events which will include:
- Free Teacher registration for the week-long ESA Annual Meeting
- Free registration for a mini-BioBlitz educational fieldtrip on Sunday August 2
- Free High School student registration for two of your students for the Sunday Field Trip
- Free registration in the Educator Day events to be held on Monday, August 3
- Opportunity to apply for a grant of $500 to initiate an Ecology High School Chapter in your school.
- Mentoring and Networking opportunity for your students through ESA’s SEEDS program, which serves underrepresented undergraduate students in ecology.

To participate in the Educator-Day on Monday, August 3, please apply at www.esa.org/education_diversity/hseducator_registration.php. - ESA “Bio-blitz” and the ESA Annual Meeting
High school teachers along with two of their students are invited to participate in this special field trip event (on Sunday, August 2) at no cost. Teachers are invited to participate in the full conference and expected to participate in the Educator Day events on Monday, August 3. Participating High Schools will also have the opportunity to apply for a High School Chapter grant. Teacher pairs from the same school are encouraged.
