The LEAF Educator program is delighted to offer you a rare opportunity to interact directly with scientists as well as other teachers on ways to enrich your curriculum during the Ecological Society of America's (ESA) Annual Meeting.  Come join us for The LEAF Educator Annual Retreat which will be held August 8-9, 2011, in Austin, TX.  A limited number of Travel Awards of up to $1,000 is available to teachers.

 

PROGRAM

The LEAF Educator Annual Retreat consists of two days: (1) the High School Educators Ecological and Research Literacy Day on Monday August 8, 2011 and (2) the LEAF teacher meeting on Tuesday August 9, 2011.

 

Day 1 Agenda

Note: The High School Educator Ecological Research and Literacy program on Day 1 is open to local TX teachers but workshops and sessions that day will be useful to ALL teachers.

Part I: Environmental Systems
This workshop will reinforce the nature of Scientific Inquiry, integrate concepts and skills from the natural and social sciences and offer strategies to promote critical thinking around Sustainability issues.

Part II: Aquatic Systems
Examine the science of water and the role of organisms in monitoring water quality.

Attend ESA scientific sessions of your choice. Participants will be guided to apply lessons learned from the workshop during this time.
