EcoED Digital Library Workshop
March 18-21, 2010
Washington, DC
Made possible through a grant from the National Science Foundation
WE ARE NO LONGER ACCEPTING APPLICATIONS FOR THIS EVENT.
If this workshop is of interest to you, you are welcome to subscribe to ESA's Education email list to receive announcements when we are offering similar opportunities for involvement in our education initiatives and professional development.
OVERVIEW
To ensure that today’s undergraduates have access to 21st century ecological knowledge and skills, the ESA EcoEd Digital Library aims to equip faculty with teaching resources based on current ecological research. We are currently seeking faculty to participate in the workshop. This is a rare opportunity to work with research scientists and contribute your insight as an experienced ecology educator. We plan to bring together 35 researchers, educators from diverse settings, technology experts and students to discuss how we might:
- incorporate recent scientific findings into the ecology classroom, through media such as figure sets, visualizations, videos etc.
- share best practices for effective use of posted resources by educators and their students
- develop partnerships between researchers and faculty for the long-term intellectual sustainability of EcoEd DL
- anticipate the technological advances and resources we need to ensure that EcoEd DL is a viable and attractive tool for the education community.
LOGISTICS
The workshop will be held at the AAAS HQ in Washington DC from March 18-21, 2010 (travel dates included). A webinar will also be held to prepare participants for the workshop. Particpants will be able to choose between two sessions: Feb 22 at 1:00 EST or Feb 25 at 3:00 EST. Each webinar will last about 2 hours.
