NCEP Exercise- Environmental Justice in Biodiversity Decision-Making

In two essays, students are asked to think critically about just environmental action in both a national and international context. Students first address the creation of a wilderness region in the Blue Ridge Mountains of the United States and advise the park service on engaging and compensating affected communities within its boundaries. Second, students play the role of environmental experts to counsel the Brazilian government on the creation of the Indo-Maize biological reserve. Additional teaching materials on topics relating to biodiversity conservation and ecology can be obtained free of charge by registering at the Network for Conservation Educators and Practitioners’ website (http://ncep.amnh.org).
