Students Travel Awards for the ESA 2002 Annual Meeting
Three students were selected to receive travel awards of $250 to attend the
ESA 2002 Annual Meeting. These students are:
Betsy Galbraith, an MS student from the University of Wisconsin working on species diversity in managed white pine forests,
Mitchell Pavao-Zuckerman, a PhD student in the Institute of Ecology at the University of Georgia working on urbanization impacts on soil quality, and
Joanne Tippett, a graduate student from the University of Manchester working on Integrated catchement management and planning for sustainability - the case of the Mersey Basin Campaign.
Conference Sponsorship
The Applied Ecology section has provided $500 in support of an American Geophysical
Union Chapman Conference entitled "Ecohydrology of Semiarid Landscapes:
Interactions and Processes" on 9-13 September 2002 in Taos, New Mexico.

The revised site has been submitted to ESA for incorporation into the ESA web
site.
2002 Annual Meeting
The Applied Ecology Section is a sponsor or co-sponsor of 4 symposia at this
year's annual meeting in Tucson:
Symposium #3: Ecological Theory and Restoration Ecology,
Symposium #15: Fire and Invasive Plant Ecology and Management: the Need for Integration to Effectively Restore Ecosystems,
Symposium #18: Understanding and Restoring Watersheds and Riparian Systems at Risk: The Great Basin Ecosystem Management Project, and
Symposium #19: Cities of Resilience: Integrating Ecology into Urban Planning, Design, Policy, and Management
In order to broaden section membership interactions within ESA the Applied Ecology section is co hosting a social/mixer with the Soil Ecology Section and the Rangeland Ecology Section at the 2002 Tucson meeting.
